Overview
The Seelys contacted The Exterior Zone seeking a long-term solution for a compromised door system and deteriorating siding at their Oxford residence. What began as a quote finalization quickly turned into a comprehensive repair, reframing, and replacement project. Working closely with the Seelys, our team removed significant rot, upgraded the substructure, and delivered a beautiful new sliding door system, custom siding integration, and trim finish—leaving the home structurally sound and visually refreshed.
Before
Following an extensive diagnostic assessment, it was determined that the improper attachment of the pergola—combined with poor installation of the upper sliding door and deck ledger flashing—had contributed directly to the premature failure of the previous doors and siding system.
Prior to renovation, the home exhibited multiple points of failure around the lower and upper sliding doors:
- Severe rot around the jack studs, sill, deck ledger board, and OSB sheathing
- Failing trim and siding components compromised by years of water infiltration
- Structural concerns requiring support during removal and rebuild

Scope of Work
The project included demolition, structural reinforcement, installation of premium-grade components, and detailed finish work:
Structural & Framing Repairs
- Removed deteriorated subfloor, header, studs, and sheathing
- Reframed wall including 8’ 2×10 ledger, 8’ 2×8 front header, jack and king studs, and new OSB
- Supported deck safely during rebuild and prepped wall for new door
Sliding Door Installation
- Installed two ProVia Aeris 9612 2-lite patio doors (upper and lower)
- Left-hand operable, with Maple interior, Snow Mist White finish
- ComforTech TLK glass with prairie contour grid, SeeVue stainless mesh screen
- Applied foam, Terpolymer sealant, sill pan, and threshold adjustments
- Trimmed with Colonial 2 1/2” Poplar casing and custom threshold transition
Siding & Trim Finishes
- Replaced all damaged siding around the door area with matching profile (D4 Herringbone)
- Installed new frieze board above upper door (5/4×8)
- Applied and sealed all trim boards and kick plates, painted to match Arctic White
- Used butyl tape, fasteners, and adhesive techniques to ensure clean, secure finishes

After
The Seelys now enjoy a crisp, water-tight, and professionally finished rear exterior. Both sliding doors operate smoothly and lock securely. All trim and siding components were installed to Zone standards with a clean Arctic White finish, delivering a modern, finished aesthetic. Most importantly, the home’s structural integrity beneath and around the doors has been fully restored.
